Safeguarding, put into practice
We offer the tools organisations need to put safeguarding into practice. Most engagements combine two or three of these services. If you are not sure which, describe the problem and get in touch to further discuss your specific needs and how we can collaborate.
Training and capacity strengthening
We design training around your organisation, not the other way around.
Our training is practical, participatory and grounded in situations people may actually encounter in their work. We tailor the content, case scenarios and exercises to your context, area of work, identified risks and the responsibilities of the people in the room.
The focus is not simply on awareness or compliance. We help people understand what safeguarding means for their role, recognise risks and concerns, and build the confidence and practical skills to respond appropriately.
This can include:
- PSEAH training for staff, managers and focal points, from core concepts and responsibilities to reporting, response and risk mitigation
- Safeguarding risk assessment and mitigation training, tailored to different sectors and operating contexts, helping teams identify where and how risks may arise, assess who may be most exposed to harm, and develop practical measures to prevent and mitigate those risks
- Workplace sexual harassment training for employees, managers, HR, leadership and other relevant functions, covering prevention, appropriate conduct, reporting and organisational response
- GBV and SEAH case management training for practitioners responsible for receiving and managing cases
- Survivor-centred approaches for specialist and non-specialist roles, including PSEAH, investigators, HR and senior leadership
- Scenario-based and simulation exercises built around situations relevant to organisations, from responding to a safeguarding concern or disclosure to managing a report of sexual exploitation and abuse or sexual harassment or making decisions during an incident
- Training of trainers and facilitation development, helping organisations build and sustain their own internal capacity
Training can be delivered as a standalone intervention or as part of wider work to strengthen safeguarding systems and organisational practice.
Safeguarding, PSEAH and workplace systems: assess, design, build
Policies matter, but they only protect people when the systems around them work.
We help organisations understand what they already have, where the risks and gaps are and what needs to change. We can then design and help implement the systems, processes and practical tools needed to make safeguarding work in day-to-day operations.
Assess
We look at how systems work in practice, not only at what exists on paper.
We review existing arrangements, risks and organisational capacity against relevant standards and good practice, helping identify what is working, where gaps remain and where strengthening is needed.
This can include safeguarding and PSEAH risk assessments, policy and systems reviews, organisational readiness assessments, workplace sexual harassment systems reviews and reviews following specific incidents or cases.
Design
We develop and strengthen the frameworks and processes organisations need to prevent harm and respond appropriately when concerns arise.
This can include policies, procedures, safe and accessible reporting and complaints mechanisms, referral arrangements, response mechanisms and safeguards for confidential and ethical information management.
Build
We help turn frameworks into systems that work in practice.
That means supporting organisations with the practical tools, roles, capacity, governance and accountability arrangements needed to put them into practice and embed them across teams and operations. This can include strengthening focal-point structures, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and developing practical tools and guidance for implementation.
Investigation readiness
We do not conduct investigations. We help organisations make sure the systems around investigations are ready to work when needed.
This can include strengthening reporting and escalation arrangements, confidentiality safeguards, survivor support, referral processes and the interface between investigations and wider organisational response.
Survivor-centred response and case management support
We help organisations strengthen how safeguarding, SEAH and GBV concerns are received, reported, referred, managed and followed through, with the safety, dignity, wishes and needs of victims and survivors at the centre.
Our services can include strengthening case-management approaches and procedures, referral pathways and survivor assistance; reviewing case-management practice and information management; and providing technical guidance and supervision support to practitioners responsible for managing cases.
We also help organisations strengthen the connections between case management, survivor assistance, safeguarding processes and investigations, so that organisational processes do not lose sight of the person affected.
Where children are involved, we support child-sensitive approaches and appropriate links with child protection services and referral pathways.
We can support organisations to strengthen existing case-management systems or address specific gaps identified through reviews, assessments or live practice.
Specialist technical advice
Specialist expertise, applied to your context.
Some challenges need deep technical knowledge in a specific area of protection. We provide expert advice and hands-on technical support to organisations designing, delivering or strengthening work in these areas, drawing on direct operational experience across humanitarian, development and institutional settings.
We help teams translate international standards and good practice into practical approaches that fit their context, their operations and the people they work with.
This can include:
- Safeguarding and PSEAH, including organisational safeguarding approaches that meet recognised international standards, support for staff responsible for safeguarding, assistance for victims and survivors, and preventing and responding to sexual harassment in the workplace.
- GBV prevention, risk mitigation and response, including programme design and implementation, GBV risk mitigation across sectors, safe referral systems and women and girls’ safe spaces.
- Technology-facilitated GBV and SEAH, an emerging area of focus. Harm increasingly happens through digital platforms, devices and data, and most safeguarding systems were not designed for it. We bring specific expertise in how technology creates new risks for the people organisations serve and for their own staff, and we help organisations adapt reporting, response and survivor support to match, including digital safeguarding approaches and tool design. This is an evolving field and a growing part of our work, and we welcome conversations with organisations working through these questions.
- Child safeguarding and child protection, including safer programming, child-sensitive reporting and response, case management and supervision approaches, and child-friendly communication.
- Counter-trafficking, including safe identification practices that put the safety, consent and wellbeing of the person first, survivor-centred assistance and referral, and approaches that look critically at how anti-trafficking interventions can themselves create harm. Our work is informed by research and lived experience, and centres the rights, agency and choices of people affected by trafficking and exploitation rather than enforcement priorities alone.
- Disability inclusion, making sure reporting channels, information, services and safeguarding measures are accessible to people with disabilities and shaped by their participation.
Programme and portfolio review
Make sure your programmes are safe for the people they serve.
We have managed multi-donor GBV portfolios and led programme reviews in humanitarian and development settings. We look at how your programmes work in practice, where they may create or overlook risks of harm, and what would make them safer and more effective.
This can include reviewing programme design and delivery for safeguarding and protection risks, checking whether the people your work reaches know what to expect from your staff and can raise concerns safely and get support, and helping teams in any sector build risk mitigation into their everyday work.
You get practical improvement plans and materials your teams can use, not a report that sits on a shelf.
